Meta Muse: The Personal AI Agent, Explained

On 8 September 2026, Meta announced Muse, its entry into the suddenly crowded market for personal AI agents. Unlike a chatbot that replies and stops, Muse is built to take on a goal and keep working at it, even after you close the app. It is Meta's bet that the next consumer AI habit is delegation, not conversation.

What Muse does

Muse can open a browser, fill out forms, send email, and book and pay for things. The use cases Meta highlights are the chores people put off: drafting and sending emails, booking travel, buying tickets, negotiating bills, and building plans that stretch across weeks. You hand it a task and it executes, rather than walking you through steps.

Where you can use it

Muse launched in the United States for adults, and its reach is the widest of the 2026 agents: a dedicated iOS and Android app, the web, and crucially inside WhatsApp, where billions of people already are. It is free for most use, with reported paid tiers at $20 and $100 per month for heavier workloads.

The trust problem, and Meta's answer

An agent that pays for things and logs into your accounts is only useful if you trust it. Meta leans on infrastructure to make the case: Muse runs on a dedicated Muse Secure VM that houses both the agent and your data, and Meta said it would add a Muse Confidential VM where the whole environment is encrypted with a key only you hold, so not even Meta can read it.

How it compares

Muse is the mass-market option in a field that also includes OpenAI's Dots, xAI's Grok Bot and the startup Instinct. Where Dots lives in your work tools and Grok Bot targets power users, Muse goes for reach and a free tier. For the full comparison, see The 2026 Personal AI Agent Wars.
