Dots are personal AI agents developed by OpenAI, unveiled during the DevDay 2026 keynote in San Francisco on 29 September 2026. Built into ChatGPT and powered by the GPT-6 Astra model, Dots are part of the 2026 wave of personal AI agents that also included Meta's Muse, xAI's Grok Bot and the startup Instinct.
Concept
Unlike a chatbot that answers in a single exchange, Dots are always on, each running on its own cloud computer, and pursue user-defined goals continuously in the background with minimal oversight. A user can reach a dot from ChatGPT, text messages, Slack, Teams or a phone call, and OpenAI said users would eventually control several dots at once.
Capabilities
Dots can connect to more than 4,000 applications, including workplace tools such as Slack and Teams, to carry out tasks. In launch demos, a dot named Alfred ended a phone call by reporting that a user's website had gone live with the design already approved, and a dot named Felipe edited a company dashboard by voice and proactively flagged a scheduling clash between a finance meeting and a family event.
Availability
The first dot is included at no extra cost in OpenAI's Pro and Business Premium plans in eligible markets, with the Pro plan priced at $100 per month.
