The 2022 Time Capsule: Real Stable Diffusion Prompts with Their Seeds and Settings

Wikiprompt's catalog now reaches back to August 2022. We imported a sample of DiffusionDB, the Georgia Tech (Poloclub) CC0 archive of two million real prompts and images from the original Stable Diffusion Discord - the two weeks when open image generation first exploded. Every imported prompt keeps its original date, its image, and something no other era of our catalog has: the exact generation parameters. Seed, steps, CFG scale, sampler - the full recipe, reproducible to the pixel.

What August 2022 asked for

The keyword profile of the SD 1.4 launch corpus:

  • "Artstation" as a magic word. "Artstation" (492) and "concept art" (423) are era-defining: the community discovered that naming an art platform steered quality, and pasted it into everything. The trick died with later models; in 2022 it WAS prompt engineering.
  • Fantasy illustration ruled. "Portrait" (863), "illustration" (710), "fantasy" (629), "digital painting" (375): photorealism barely registers, partly by taste and partly because SD 1.4 could not really do it.
  • The incantation style. Prompts read as comma-separated keyword stacks ("highly detailed, 8k, trending on artstation") rather than sentences - the opposite of the flowing DALL-E 3 style that came a year later, and of today's production briefs.

    • The house genre: hybrid creatures

    The top of the 2022 sample is dominated by creature mashups, the era's favorite game:

    • Why the settings matter

    Each prompt's infobox carries the original seed, step count, CFG scale and sampler (k_lms and ddim, mostly - Euler ancestral was still exotic). For anyone studying how generation defaults evolved, or anyone running SD 1.4 for the retro aesthetic that is now its own genre, these are working recipes, not screenshots.

    With this import the encyclopedia now documents three distinct prompting eras side by side: the 2022 keyword incantations (this capsule), the 2023 DALL-E 3 absurdist sentences, and today's cinematic production briefs.
