Nano Banana 2 vs Nano Banana Pro: Which Google Image Model for Which Job

Google now ships two image models that people reach for constantly, and the names do not make the difference obvious. Nano Banana 2 and Nano Banana Pro sit side by side in our catalog with thousands of real prompts each, so instead of guessing, we looked at what the community actually builds with each one. The split is clearer than the naming suggests.

The short answer

Nano Banana 2 is the portrait and editorial specialist. Nano Banana Pro is the versatile workhorse. Nearly every top Nano Banana 2 prompt is a single striking subject: a face, a fashion look, a beauty macro. Nano Banana Pro spreads much wider, into multi-shot storyboards, product ads, and complex composite scenes. If you are shooting one hero image of a person, reach for 2. If you are building a sequence, a campaign, or a scene with many moving parts, reach for Pro.

What Nano Banana 2 is best at

The Nano Banana 2 corpus is dominated by one thing: photoreal human detail. The standout prompts obsess over skin, light, and fashion styling.

  • Skin and face realism. Obsessive Skin Detail Cinematic Portrait and Forensic Face Portrait Extreme Close-Up push the model where it is strongest, pores, texture, catchlights.
  • Fashion editorial. Ethereal Lavender Fashion Editorial Portrait, Met Gala Biomechanical Couture Editorial, and Surreal Fine-Art Fashion Editorial: Molten Wax and Living Flowers show how well it handles couture and styling.
  • Beauty macro. Nano Banana 2: Fire Eye Makeup Macro Beauty and Renaissance Cherub Wearable Art Makeup Editorial lean into extreme close-up cosmetics.
  • Miniature dioramas. A surprising strength: Great Rift Valley Tabletop Diorama and Kigali Convention Centre Miniature Diorama render tiny, tilt-shift worlds cleanly.
  • The pattern: one subject, maximum detail, art-directed lighting. In the data, 98% of Nano Banana 2 prompts are tagged creative, with almost nothing in marketing. It is an aesthetic tool, not a commercial one.

What Nano Banana Pro is best at

Nano Banana Pro has more than twice the prompt volume, and the range is the story. It still does gorgeous single images, but the top prompts show it stretching into territory Nano Banana 2 rarely touches.

  • Multi-shot grids and storyboards. Cinematic 3x3 Hard Sci-Fi Desert Storyboard Grid, Istanbul Rain Couple Photorealistic Multi-Shot Story, and Cinematic Beauty 2x2 Grid with Fire Dragon Makeup generate coherent multi-panel sequences in one shot.
  • Product and ad shots. Pro carries seven times more marketing prompts than 2. Luxury Perfume Product Shot and Ultra-Luxury Glass Solar System Watch Ad Prompt are the kind of clean commercial work it handles well.
  • Composite and impossible scenes. Pirate Sea Battle Inside a Coffee Cup, World Inside a Tear: Cinematic Museum Scene, and Photorealistic Hidden Giant in City at Blue Hour combine multiple elements with scale tricks that need strong scene composition.
  • Concept art and worldbuilding. Fallen Angel: Mechanical Angel Concept Art Prompt and Cyberpunk Night Market Rain Scene point at game and film pre-production use.
  • It still nails a portrait, Hyper-Realistic Skin Texture Prompt proves that, but you would not pick Pro only for a headshot. You pick it when the brief has more than one thing going on.

    How to choose

  • One person, maximum realism, editorial styling? Nano Banana 2. Its skin and fashion work is the reason it exists.
  • A sequence, a grid, or a storyboard? Nano Banana Pro. Multi-shot coherence is its signature.
  • A product or ad? Pro, by a wide margin in how the community uses them.
  • A composite or impossible scene with scale play? Pro.
  • A tilt-shift diorama? Interestingly, 2 handles these beautifully, so either works, but 2 has the edge.
  • A starter recipe that works on both

Both models reward the same discipline: name the medium, the light, and the lens.

  • Medium and realism: "ultra-photorealistic editorial photograph" or "cinematic still."
  • Subject in one clear sentence. For Pro, add the shot structure ("a 3x3 grid of...", "a three-panel story of...").
  • Light: name it (Rembrandt, hard flash, blue hour, backlit).
  • Lens and framing: "85mm close-up", "wide establishing shot."
  • Detail anchors: skin texture, fabric, reflections, whatever must read as real.
  • Browse the full collections to see how the community fills that in: Nano Banana 2 prompts and Nano Banana Pro prompts. Both run directly in Create if you want to test the same brief on each and see the difference yourself.
