The Gauntlet Loop Beyond Code: Essays, Landing Pages, Research
Nothing in the gauntlet loop is about games or code. Essays against a named writer, pages against a competitor screenshot, research against an analyst note.

The Gauntlet Loop Beyond Code: Essays, Landing Pages, Research
The gauntlet loop went viral attached to a video game: Claude of Duty, a 55,000-line FPS built by looping agents. But nothing in the pattern is about games, or even about code. It needs exactly one thing: an output a critic can open and compare against a real reference. That covers more work than most people expect.
Writing
Goal: a 2,000-word explainer on vector databases for non-engineers. Bar: a named writer's actual published post on a similar topic. The critic reads both, labels stripped, and answers one question: which one would a non-engineer understand faster? If the bar wins, it names the biggest gap (structure? jargon? a missing example?) and the builder fixes only that. Writers have done "read it against the best" for centuries; the gauntlet loop just automates the referee.
Landing pages and design
Goal: a landing page in your brand. Bar: a specific competitor's live campaign page, screenshotted at desktop AND mobile. The visual critic is the same idea Shumer used for game frames: screenshot yours, screenshot theirs, blind pick. Design taste is exactly the kind of judgment that inflates when self-graded and stays honest in a blind pair.
Research and analysis
Goal: a competitive analysis brief. Bar: a published analyst note on an adjacent market. The critic checks which document a decision-maker could act on faster, and whether every claim traces to a source. Research gauntlets surface the difference between "sounds thorough" and "is thorough" brutally well.
Data pipelines and specs
Goal: an ETL pipeline. Bar: the spec itself plus a golden output file. This is the degenerate but useful case: when a bar can be a test, the critic becomes an integration test with taste.
The one requirement
If the critic cannot fetch the reference, the loop silently dies: it hallucinates the comparison and approves everything. So before you run anything, ask: can an agent actually open my bar? If yes, the gauntlet works, whatever the medium. Start from the template, or see how to write your own.
