The Anatomy of a Featured Prompt: What the Top 2% Have in Common
We analyzed all 2,185 Featured prompts against the other 111k: they are 4x longer, 4x more likely to be video, heavy on film vocabulary and reusable placeholders. The data, and a checklist.

Out of 113,000+ prompts on Wikiprompt, only 2,185 carry the Featured badge - the editorial top ~2%. We ran the numbers on what actually separates them from the other 98%. The differences are not subtle.
Featured prompts are 4x longer
The average prompt on Wikiprompt runs 625 characters. The average Featured prompt runs 2,645. The winners do not describe a wish, they describe a production: subject, composition, lighting, camera, mood, and what NOT to render. Length is not the goal - completeness is - but incomplete prompts almost never make the cut.
They are built to be reused
29% of Featured prompts contain explicit placeholders like [SUBJECT] or {style}, versus 19% of the rest. The editorial bar rewards templates: a prompt that only works for one specific image is a screenshot, not a recipe.
Video punches far above its weight
Only ~9% of the catalog is video prompts, but 35% of Featured prompts are video. Writing a video prompt that actually works (camera moves, timing, physics) is harder, so the good ones stand out more. The model with the highest Featured rate in the whole catalog is Seedance 2.5 at 27.9% - one in four of its prompts earns the badge, ten times the catalog average - followed by Seedance 2.0 (8.7%) and Hailuo (7.1%). Among image models, GPT Image 2 has the most Featured prompts in absolute terms (341).
The vocabulary of quality
The most common keywords across Featured prompts read like a cinematography syllabus: *cinematic* (527), *photorealistic* (393), *portrait* (208), *film grain* (203), *shallow depth of field* (202), *typography* (171), *negative prompt* (148), *golden hour* (125), *character consistency* (122). Two takeaways: top prompt writers use the language of film and photography, not adjectives like "beautiful"; and they control the frame with negatives and consistency constraints, not just descriptions.
