memory in Hermes Agent, here are five tips: (1) should I use native memory or a memory provider? native memory is built in and on by default. the agent keeps its notes in MEMORY.md and a profile of you in USER.md, both in ~/.hermes/memories/, and loads them at the start of every session. a memory provider runs alongside it and adds things like semantic search, knowledge graphs and automatic fact extraction: ``` hermes memory setup hermes memory status ``` (2) can my memory stay local? yes. the memory files live on your disk, and every past chat is stored in ~/.hermes/state.db, which the agent can search. (3) is there an off-the-shelf way to run a wiki knowledge base? yes, the `llm-wiki` skill comes installed with Hermes Agent. it builds and maintains a knowledge base as interlinked markdown files in ~/wiki (or wherever WIKI_PATH points), and the folder works as an Obsidian vault: `/llm-wiki start a wiki about <topic>, then ingest <url>` in any later chat, ask it a question and it answers from the wiki's pages. (4) should a fact go in memory or in a skill? memory is for facts the agent needs in every session, so they sit in its prompt from the start. a skill loads only when it's relevant, which often makes it the better home for what a recurring task needs, like where its files live. (5) can I see and fix what it remembers? yes. `hermes journey` shows memory entries and learned skills on one timeline, and `hermes journey edit` or `hermes journey delete` corrects an entry. to approve every save first, add this to config.yaml: ``` memory: write_approval: true ```
