# Nano Banana 2

Nano Banana 2 is the community name for the 2026 successor in Google's Nano Banana image generation line, continuing the Gemini-based image model series.

Nano Banana 2 is the community name for the 2026 successor in Google's [Nano Banana](https://www.wikiprompt.org/wiki/nano-banana) line of image generation models, developed by [Google DeepMind](https://www.wikiprompt.org/wiki/google-deepmind) on the [Gemini](https://www.wikiprompt.org/wiki/gemini) model family. As with earlier entries in the line, the playful nickname (inherited from the original model's anonymous LMArena codename) spread faster than the official product branding and remains the name most prompt authors use.

## Position in the line

The Nano Banana series began with the original Nano Banana (Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, August 2025), a fast consumer-tier model that went viral for photorealistic edits and figurine-style transformations, and was followed by [Nano Banana Pro](https://www.wikiprompt.org/wiki/nano-banana-pro) (Gemini 3 Pro Image, November 2025), the 4K professional tier. Nano Banana 2 continues the fast tier with quality improvements inherited from the Gemini 3 generation: better prompt adherence, more reliable text rendering and stronger identity preservation in edits.

## Usage

On Wikiprompt, Nano Banana 2 accumulated over a thousand tagged prompts within months of release, concentrated in the genres the line is known for: photorealistic portrait edits, product shots, stylized character transformations and meme-adjacent visual trends. It competes most directly with [GPT Image 2](https://www.wikiprompt.org/wiki/gpt-image-2)'s standard tier, with the choice between them often coming down to ecosystem (Gemini vs ChatGPT) rather than raw quality.
